Today, Dr. Angela Parvu, Principal GP at Alfa Medics, brought the “I am healthy and this is my choice” campaign to St. Joseph’s College Lucan, where she addressed an audience of over 150 students aged 14-16. During her engaging presentation, Dr. Angela spoke about the importance of making informed choices to support both physical and mental health. She covered a wide range of topics, including the benefits of a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and avoiding harmful substances like alcohol, drugs, and vaping. She also highlighted the significance of managing screen time, understanding mental health issues such as stress and anxiety, practicing mindfulness, and reducing stigma around seeking help.

In addition, Dr. Angela discussed the importance of preventive health measures, such as routine check-ups, vaccinations, and maintaining personal hygiene. She encouraged students to build resilience against peer pressure, develop decision-making skills, and adopt eco-friendly habits to promote environmental health. Lastly, she touched on the often-overlooked link between financial stress and health, offering practical tips on budgeting for personal well-being.

As always, Dr. Angela ensured that her presentation was adapted to the students’ level of understanding, making complex topics relatable and easy to grasp.

The “I am healthy and this is my choice” campaign began in early 2024 and has no set deadline. It will continue for as long as there is interest in promoting health and well-being. This initiative is designed to inspire people to take ownership of their health and make informed, proactive choices.

Through this campaign, we aim to inspire you to:

  1. Take ownership of your health. As we always say at Alfa Medics, “Your health is your wealth.” It’s your most valuable asset, and how you prioritize it is up to you. By taking concrete steps to improve your health, you’re not only investing in yourself but also securing a brighter future.

  2. Make informed decisions. With so much information available, it’s essential to seek trusted sources and make well-informed choices about your health. Alfa Medics clinics are dedicated to providing accurate information and personalized medical care solutions tailored to your needs.

  3. Embrace a holistic lifestyle. True health extends beyond the absence of illness; it encompasses physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

  4. Advocate for preventive care. Prevention is always better than cure. By prioritizing preventive care, such as regular check-ups and vaccinations, you can detect potential health issues early and take proactive steps to address them before they escalate.

Reflect and Act

The students at St. Joseph’s College engaged enthusiastically with the session, taking notes and asking thoughtful questions. Many lined up afterward to take photos with Dr. Angela and Dr. Alfie, the Alfa Medics mascot created specifically for this campaign.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the teachers and staff at St. Joseph’s College Lucan for their openness and support in hosting this event.

This campaign has achieved remarkable milestones so far, including video messages from 20 ambassadors, school visits across Dublin, professional meet-ups, and a medical conference attended by 300 participants. However, its mission continues—to inspire people and communities to prioritize their health and well-being.

At Alfa Medics, we remain committed to supporting you and your family with everything from routine blood tests to complex consultations. Your health is a choice, and it’s one worth making every single day.
